My Morning Skincare Routine

My skincare routine is everything to me. Extreme? Maybe. Exaggeration? ..Well, maybe. But while I’m certainly no expert, skincare really is something that I have taken a keen interest in (increasingly so over the past few years – the blogger effect perhaps?). So, as you might expect, my routine is alittle step-heavy.. albeit I do leave for work fairly early of a morning. Of course, it’d take more than that to deter me. I’ve managed to perfect the whole schbang, allowing me to squeeze in the maximum amount of skin-loving lotions and potions in under 10 minutes. Some may prefer the extra minutes in bed but you know, it’s a commitment guys and you do only get one skin..

The ordinary skincare routine for oily skin

For reference (if I haven’t banged on about it quite enough before now), I have oily to combination skin and while I do suffer the odd breakout; redness and enlarged pores (bloody things) can be found at the top of my worry-list. Okay. This could be a long one..

After peeling myself out of bed and stumbling around on route to the bathroom, there’s nothing I love more than the familiar scent of my LIZ EARLE CLEANSE & POLISH. An oldie but a goodie, one pump of this massaged in to my face and polished off with a damp flannel really does the trick (and offers a little more scrub than the ol’ muslin). This rich and creamy cleanser leaves my skin feeling soft, nourished and most importantly, squeaky clean. A product that I always find myself returning to for my morning cleanse and my skin thanks me for it every time. I might even double up and cleanse with this one twice if I fancy.

Next up, I reach for the exfoliating element of my toning double act. A cotton pad soaked with the much-loved PIXI GLOW TONIC and swept over my face really does work wonders (through use of it’s Glycolic-Acid-thingys) by smoothing out and polishing away any bumps on my face as well as keeping any pesky breakouts at bay.

This, is closely followed by a spritz of hydrating toner directly on to my face, with either LA ROCHE POSAY SEROZINC or CAUDALIE BEAUTY ELIXIR being front runners for my morning pick(and it’s always nice to have a choice, right?). Both of which are not only refreshing (an essential at 5.30am, seriously) but also very hydrating and prime my face perfectly for the next round.

If I am suffering any blemishes, I’ll pop a dab of the ORIGINS SUPER SPOT REMOVER on the affected areas right about now. It might not look much but don’t let that deceive you. Containing quite the potent mix of ingredients that’ll become more than evident when you apply it (namely Salicylic Acid, Red Algae and Caffeine) – I’m talking a lot of tingle here. But alas, it works spot-zapping miracles every time so I can totally live with a bit of burn.

And then on to tackling the eyes, with a little help from KIEHL’S CREAMY EYE TREATMENT WITH AVOCADO. You see, eye creams are a product that I can never really get excited by. Maybe I’ve just not found the one for me yet? Or maybe it’s because I can never really tell if they’re doing all that much for me? More like it. This particular cream has a very strange texture and once applied, you can barely feel it’s there. It’s almost like water once patted in? It definitely does keep my eye area hydrated though but as for any long-term benefits – ask me again in 20 years.

Then enter the serums. Now this is an item of your skincare arsenal that you don’t know you need until you start using it, and the combination of INDEED LABS PEPTA-BRIGHT with a speck of their HYDRALURON really is doing it for me. Pepta-Bright works to even out my skin tone while fading any pigmentation or old scarring on my face and Hydraluron just provides a serious moisture hit. Strangely, I didn’t think much to these two as separates but used together, I’m on to a serious winner. Not only is my complexion much brighter and more radiant; my skin is left looking plump, fresh and positively glowing for the day – and all somewhat down to this pair (well, it’s a group effort here but they definitely hold their own). A seriously big thumbs up for this duo from me.

And finally (if you’re still with me..), I slap on a very thin layer of my ‘moisturiser of the moment’ which is of course, LA ROCHE POSAY TOLERIANE. I won’t go on about this one again but my feelings on it have been made more than clear.
Being the typical product junkie that I am, my routine (or at least in parts) does change up quite frequently. So many products, so little time. But for now, my skin is very happy with this little lot and you know, so am I.

So go on, what does your AM skincare routine look like?
